"Network connection needed" box!!!

Go back into the menu and deselect the auto updates. As it is now, sync is trying to find a wifi network. I found that it's faster to put the files onto a formatted thumb drive and then use a usb adaptor cable to manually ( such as it is) feed the updates into the hard-drive. That's what I did. Can't say it is the same as your version of sync in the U.K.
